Lisa Scala Jewelry pieces are handcrafted using precious metals, gemstones, pearls, crystals, and other natural or artistic materials. Proper care helps preserve their beauty and structural integrity. Last updated: July 22, 2026.
1. General Care
- Put jewelry on after applying cosmetics, perfume, hairspray, lotions, and household products.
- Remove jewelry before sleeping, bathing, swimming, exercising, gardening, cleaning, or performing manual work.
- Avoid chlorine, bleach, salt water, sulfur, ammonia, harsh chemicals, and abrasive cleaners.
- Do not expose jewelry to excessive force, impact, bending, twisting, pulling, or extreme temperature changes.
- Handle pieces by their metal edges or settings rather than pulling on stones, chains, or decorative elements.
- Have frequently worn jewelry inspected periodically for loose stones, worn prongs, stretched links, clasp wear, and structural damage.
2. Cleaning
Use a soft, clean, lint-free cloth after wear. For many pieces, a small amount of mild soap in lukewarm water and a very soft brush may be appropriate, followed by thorough rinsing and drying.
However, not every gemstone, pearl, finish, adhesive, patina, oxidized surface, enamel, or mixed-material design can safely be soaked or brushed. When uncertain, contact us before cleaning.
3. Ultrasonic and Steam Cleaners
Do not use an ultrasonic or steam cleaner unless a qualified jeweler has confirmed that the specific piece, setting, stones, treatments, and materials are suitable. These methods may damage or loosen porous, included, fracture-filled, heat-sensitive, dyed, glued, or delicate stones and components.
4. Storage
- Store each piece separately in a soft pouch, lined compartment, or original box.
- Keep chains fastened and laid flat to reduce tangling.
- Keep jewelry dry and away from direct sunlight, heat, and humidity.
- Do not allow diamonds or harder stones to rub against softer gemstones or metal surfaces.
- For silver, an anti-tarnish pouch or strip may slow tarnishing.
5. Sterling Silver
Sterling silver naturally tarnishes when exposed to air, humidity, sulfur compounds, cosmetics, and skin chemistry. Tarnish is not a manufacturing defect. Gently polish appropriate surfaces with a cloth made for sterling silver.
Do not aggressively polish intentionally oxidized, antiqued, matte, textured, or patinated areas, because polishing may remove the intended finish.
6. Gold and Gold-Plated or Gold-Filled Surfaces
Gold can scratch and bend, particularly in finer or higher-karat forms. Gold plating and similar surface treatments wear gradually through friction, chemicals, moisture, and skin contact. Normal wear of a plated finish is not a manufacturing defect.
Use a soft cloth and avoid abrasive polishing compounds unless recommended for the specific piece.
7. Gemstones
Gemstones differ widely in hardness, toughness, porosity, stability, and treatment. Even hard stones may chip or fracture from impact. Avoid assuming that a stone is safe for heat, chemicals, ultrasonic cleaning, or prolonged soaking.
Natural inclusions, color zoning, texture, veining, pits, and variations may be part of the stone’s character and are not necessarily defects.
8. Pearls, Opals, Turquoise, and Other Delicate Materials
Pearls, opals, turquoise, coral, amber, malachite, lapis, emeralds, and many organic, porous, or treated materials require special care. Keep them away from cosmetics, heat, prolonged water exposure, and chemicals. Wipe gently with a soft, slightly damp cloth and dry promptly.
Pearls should be stored away from harder jewelry. Pearl strands may require periodic restringing depending on wear.
9. Enamel, Resin, Leather, Cord, and Mixed Materials
Keep enamel, resin, leather, cord, textile, wood, and mixed-media components away from heat, water, solvents, cosmetics, and abrasion. These materials may age or change appearance naturally over time.
10. Rings
Remove rings before lifting, gripping tools, exercising, cleaning, or other activity that places pressure on the band or setting. Rings are especially vulnerable to impact, deformation, prong wear, and stone loss.
Changes in temperature, health, and body condition can affect fit. A ring that is too loose may be lost; a ring that is too tight may be unsafe. Contact a qualified jeweler about sizing.
11. Chains, Clasps, and Earrings
Do not pull chains or wear them during sleep or strenuous activity. Check clasps and earring backs before each wear. Small components may loosen through ordinary use and should be replaced when worn.
12. Professional Inspection and Maintenance
We recommend periodic professional inspection, particularly for frequently worn rings and valuable gemstones. Maintenance may include tightening stones, rebuilding prongs, replacing clasps, restringing, refinishing, replating, or repairing worn links. These services may involve a charge.
13. Limited Warranty
Lisa Scala Jewelry warrants to the original retail purchaser that a product will be free from defects in materials and workmanship under normal use for one year from the original purchase date, unless a different written warranty is provided for the item.
If we confirm a covered defect during the warranty period, our obligation will be, at our option, to repair the item, replace it with the same or a reasonably comparable item, or refund the purchase price. Because many pieces are handmade or one of a kind, exact replacement may not be possible.
14. What the Limited Warranty Does Not Cover
The limited warranty does not cover:
- Normal wear, scratches, dents, tarnish, patina change, finish wear, or plating wear;
- Damage caused by impact, bending, crushing, pulling, snagging, misuse, accident, neglect, improper storage, or improper cleaning;
- Loss of an item or component;
- Stone loss caused by impact, worn settings, or failure to obtain reasonable maintenance;
- Cracking, chipping, abrasion, discoloration, or damage to a stone after delivery unless caused by a covered defect;
- Natural variations, inclusions, color differences, texture, or handmade characteristics;
- Changes caused by chemicals, cosmetics, water, heat, environmental exposure, or skin chemistry;
- Stretching or breakage of chains, cords, elastic, stringing material, or clasps from wear or force;
- Damage or alteration caused by repair, resizing, modification, or service performed by anyone other than Lisa Scala Jewelry;
- Incorrect size supplied or approved by the customer;
- Abuse, commercial use, or use inconsistent with the piece’s design; or
- Consequential or incidental loss, including loss of use or sentimental value, to the extent permitted by law.
15. Warranty Claim Procedure
- Contact us before shipping the item.
- Provide proof of purchase, a description of the issue, and clear photographs.
- Follow the packaging and shipping instructions supplied.
- Do not send valuable jewelry through untracked or uninsured mail.
We may inspect the item before determining whether the issue is covered. If it is not covered, we may offer a repair estimate.
16. Return Shipping for Warranty Service
When a covered defect is confirmed, we will pay reasonable shipping costs as required. For non-covered maintenance, accidental damage, sizing, or repair, the customer is generally responsible for shipping, insurance, and service charges.
17. Repairs Outside the Warranty
We may offer repair, resizing, refinishing, restringing, or restoration for a fee. Availability depends on the condition, materials, design, and whether repair can be completed safely. An estimate is not final if additional hidden damage becomes apparent during work.
18. Third-Party or Vintage Items
Any estate, vintage, consigned, third-party, or non-Lisa-Scala item is covered only by the warranty expressly stated at sale. Age-related wear and pre-existing characteristics are not manufacturing defects.
19. Legal Rights
This limited warranty gives you specific rights. You may have additional rights under applicable law. Nothing here excludes a warranty or remedy that cannot legally be excluded.
