To this day, every time I use a rivet to join pieces of metal, I feel a quiet connection to the generations of metalsmiths who came before me. There’s something grounding about working with a technique that has been used for centuries — a reminder that I’m participating in a much larger history of jewelry making. It may sound simple, but ancient civilizations were already using similar methods that are still relevant in the studio today. That continuity is something I deeply appreciate. In those moments, the process feels bigger than just the piece in front of me — it feels like a thread linking past and present, craft and tradition, maker to maker across time.
